Saudi Clothing and Traditional Dresses

Saudi Arabia has a rich culture, and clothing is an important part of it. Traditional clothing is often modest, elegant, and connected to the country’s history and climate.

  • For Men:

    • Thobe (or Thawb): A long white robe usually worn in daily life.

    • Shemagh or Ghutra: A head covering, often red-and-white checked (shemagh) or plain white (ghutra), held in place with a black cord called Iqal.

    • In winter, men may wear a cloak called Bisht, usually for special occasions.

  • For Women:

    • Abaya: A long black cloak worn over clothes, often decorated with embroidery.

    • Hijab or Shayla: A headscarf that covers the hair.

    • In traditional occasions, women may wear colorful dresses with gold embroidery, like the Thobe Al-Nashalin the Hijaz region or Al-Darraa in

      Najd.

    • Jewelry and accessories are also part of women’s traditional outfits.

These clothes reflect Saudi identity, modesty, and pride in heritage, while modern fashion designers are now mixing tradition with contemporary styles.
